From a Friend’s Dark Room to a Photographic Sciences Degree
I became interested in photography while studying for my A levels, when I helped a friend to develop and print some black and white photographs. This interest quickly became an obsession and I decided to take a degree level course in Photographic Sciences at Central London Polytechnic.
I have always loved the technical (originally I had planned to take a degree in Engineering!) and the artistic sides of photography. My Photographic Sciences degree provided a fantastic grounding in both.
My Inspiration: Edward Weston and Getting the Perfect Picture
One of the key inspirations behind my work is Edward Weston, a 20th century American photographer who pioneered new ways of capturing the depth and detail of real life images, in a quest to get the “perfect picture.”
In my work, I aim to capture that “key moment,” and the all-important detail, so that I can deliver the “perfect picture” for my clients.
I am endlessly patient with my subjects, be they human or animal, giving them the time and space they need to be able to relax and enjoy their photo session. Once they are relaxed and at ease with the situation, I am able to capture their true character and personality in my photographs.
Capturing the Moment
After spending a number of years in the retail and insurance industries, I am delighted to have been able to pursue my passion and to take up a career as a professional photographer, capturing precious moments for my clients.
